Chieftains of the People Democratic Party (PDP) suspected to have vandalized a billboard erected by APC members are now on the run as Police commences investigation into the vandalism in Ubandawaki ward of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara state.
Recall that a billboard was erected in Ubandawaki ward earlier in the month by supporters of the APC in the ward in support of the aspiration of the Governor Mall. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the Senatorial candidate of the district, Mall Saliu Mustapha.
Ubandawaki ward is the ancestral ward of the PDP senatorial candidate, Mall. Bolaji Abdullahi.
However there had been reported resistance by some unnamed chieftains of the PDP in the ward after the board installation. The chieftains were said to have insisted that it was immoral for the campaign of the opposing candidate of Abdullahi to be mounted in the latter’s ward by indigenes of the ward that Abdullahi have in one way or the other benefited in time past.
And true to their threat, overnight on Thursday, the billboard was vandalized by suspected hoodlums loyal to the PDP candidates.
But the support group, which is the main victim of the vandalism had reported formerly to the police.
In their complaint, the group said they were peace loving and would refuse to do anything capable of disrupting the fragile peace in the ward.
“We have asked our members not to retaliate. This is why we’ve gone to the police. They’ve been promised quick police action and any moment from now, the police will start picking all those responsible for the damage.”
“We have named them. They cannot escape.”
