LEADING THROUGH TO SUCCESS IN A CHANGING ENVIRONMENT

Success is what everyone desire while on a project, be it physical, mental, intellectual and integrated one. Many are aware it takes a great lot of efforts but not conversant with the fact that a slight change in strategy is what it sometimes require.

No sane person does a thing the same way every time and expects different results. A tilt in approach will be needed to come up with a new and different outcome. That is why leaders must be good in managing change, which are often resisted by people that wants to maintain status quo. Their resistance is simply borne out of the fact that they are benefitting heavily from the ongoing system.

That is why they would be silently or vociferously campaigning for maintaining the status quo ante. Hence, a good leader must be a good change manager; by this token, he must be an individual responsible for planning, developing, delivering, and tracking change management deliverables including communications, training, stakeholder engagement, change impact assessment, organizational readiness analysis, coaching, resistance management, and change reinforcement.He must ensure that everyone involved in the dynamic activities of change understands what needs to happen – and what it means for them.

The leadership of an organization must agree on success criteria  for changes to happen, and they must make sure that they’re regularly measured and reported on.The leader must map out and identify all of the key stakeholders that will be involved in the change and define their level of involvement. He must Identify any training needs that must be addressed in order to implement the change.

He needs to appoint “change agents,” who’ll help to put the new practices into place – and who can act as role models for the new approach. He has to find ways to change people’s habits , so that the new practices become the norm.

This is one aspect where leaders have mountainous challenges, but wriggle through, he has to make sure that everyone is supported  throughout the change process.This edition of Kwara Alert is dedicated to inauguration of the state executives of All Progressives Congress, APC. They are all classified as political party administrators, who must managing conflict and cause to effect changes as desired by party members. Hence, they need to grow expertise in conflict resolution and change management.

To be successful, they require the ability to build coalitions and inspire trust. They need strong communication skills at every stage, emotional intelligence  to pick up on resistance to change and acknowledge the personal difficulties that people have with it. They need ability to think strategically and link the change to the “bigger picture.”The recommendations given above are not exhaustive.
