The Kwara Progressive Media Organization, KPMO has advised politicians, especially those in the opposition parties in the State to play politics with decorum to ensure the sustenance of democracy and the safety of lives and property of Kwarans in the build-up to the 2023 general elections.

In a statement issued by its convener, Usman Lade, he urged the opposition parties in the State to emulate the virtues of the Chief Executive Officer and the Governor of the State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq who has proven over time to be an advocate of peace, unity and political decorum.

Recently, in a viral video, Dr. Bukola Saraki who is the Leader of the Kwara State People’s Democratic Party, PDP was seen instructing his followers to adopt propaganda against the Government of the day, an uncivilized act not expected from a former Governor of the state and senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Politicians like Sen Bukola Saraki and their followers must be mindful of the acts and utterances they make, especially in the media and public places so as not to set the stage on fire.

“Campaigns should be issues-based. Political parties don’t have to engage in a campaign of propaganda, deceit, and blackmail. We urge candidates, political leaders, followers, and the general public to be civil and peaceful in their activities and also imbibe the duty of verifying information before escalating”

“We also want to place all the security agencies on alert as to the activities of politicians in the state. There should no sacred cow, anybody found culpable of inciting members of the public should be arrested and made to face the law.

“We also appeal to the teeming youth I’m in the state not to allow any politician or individual who use them to disrupt the peace of the state. Every son and daughter of the state should resist any attempt by anyone to destroy Kwara State,” the statement read.
