The All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council’s director of strategic communication, Dele Alake, claims that Bola Tinubu, the party’s flagbearer, made his money by purchasing stocks in blue-chip corporations.
Alake spoke on Sunday during a Channels Television interview.
The origin of Tinubu’s fortune has once more been questioned in advance of the 2023 elections.
In response, Alake stated that the former governor of Lagos was not a “pauper” prior to his election as a senator in 1992.
“I was aware that he had been spending money long before he was elected.” When he first entered politics in 1991, he ran in and won the Lagos West senatorial district.
“The majority of Nigerians are aware that running in elections in Nigeria is no easy task. Poor people don’t run for office. How much more would a senate election cost?
“He must be a wealthy man. In reality, before he took up the challenge and entered the senate, he had been supporting political organizations and causes.
He received the most votes countrywide during that year’s senate election, and he was elected to the Senate in 1992”
“Rewind to 1993, when we first met on June 12; at that time, he was a member of Yar’Adua’s SDP caucus, the Peoples Font. He was funding as well. He wasn’t a beggar.
Alake claimed that individuals scrutinizing Tinubu’s financial background are showing their “hate” for the former governor of Lagos.
He continued, “What I know is that he has been trading in equities even in foreign currencies right from his days in the corporate sector.
He has been investing in stocks, bonds, and other securities. I’m not good with money. I won’t be interested in the specifics of it all.
But I am aware that he has been stock trading. He was investing in blue chip company stocks and other things. He was earning and spending cash. Before he was elected to office, he has been doing this for years.
“The reason why people are asking about his source of money is because he was a successful politician even after leaving office and a successful governor of Lagos.
He is essentially the only member of the 1999 graduating class who is at that desirable political height. He will inevitably draw all of these unfavorable remarks.
