According to information obtained by Symbol NewsAlert a fire calamity that occurred on Sunday in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, destroyed property worth N8.5 million.

The event, which happened at around 02:58, was connected to a power spike.

The incident occurred at 63 Lawyer Laro Street in the Olorunshogo neighborhood of Ilorin, in the Ilorin West Local Government area of Kwara State, according to Hassan Adekunle, spokesman for the State Fire Service in Ilorin on Sunday.

He added that “on coming to the spot, we saw that the whole structure had been engulfed by the roaring fire due to the late call from the sympathizer.”

Hassan stated, “Despite the size of the blaze, our firemen were able to show a high level of professionalism, and in no time the raging inferno was completely put out.

To prevent the fire from spreading further, “we also damped the surrounding region.”

A pressing iron was discovered plugged in even though the fire was started by a power surge, the spokesman for the firemen unit who responded to the event said.

Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, the director of the Kwara State Fire Service, asked residents to always develop the habit of turning off their electrical equipment, even before going to bed.

He explained that this would help them to prevent the chances of fire outbreaks in their various homes, and help them to drastically reduce such incidents.
