HRM Oba Adekunle Makama oyelude, Tegbosun iii, the Olowu of Kuta, has urged the federal government to swiftly resolve the ongoing dispute between it and the Academic Staff Union of Universities, or ASUU.

When his convoy collided with the National Association of Nigerian Students’ NANS road block on the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway on Tuesday, Olowu made this appeal in protest of the ongoing crisis.

The monarch made a commitment to raise the matter with the appropriate authorities when he addressed the student body and encouraged them to open the highway to ensure free flow of traffic.

However, he praised the students for paying attention to him and the security for preventing the nonviolent protest from turning violent.

“Earlier today we ran into a big protest by National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, on the ongoing ASUU strike,” said Oba Makama on his Facebook page. On the perpetually congested Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, their enormous protest brought traffic to a complete stop.

As a father and Natural Ruler, I must lead other traditional rulers in my entourage to speak to the protest organizers in order to lessen the misery of passengers on the constantly congested highway.

“I’m appealing to the relevant authorities to please save the future leaders of our nation from becoming vanguard of destruction by considering all various options in resolving the problem.

“Thanks to all our very responsible students unions for listening to us and reopened the Highway. Thanks to the security agents for being very civil and highly cautious in handling the situation. May the future of our children’s not be destroyed,.’amin ase edumare.”
