A notorious urchin and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Abolaji Shaffi (Ojulari), has been remanded in Oke Kura Prison.
Ojulari was nabbed by security agents who foiled his attempt to cause mayhem and assassinate at the recent political rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ojuekun/Sarumi.
An eyewitness account stated while APC National Assembly candidates, Saliu Mustapha and Mukhtar Shagaya were addressing a crowd of political admirers at Ojuekun/Sarumi ward of Ilorin West Local Government, Kwara State, the accused person moved closer to the APC senatorial candidate and attempted to pull out a gun from his pullover wear but he was immediately subdued by the security officers attached to the APC candidates.
Police search on the accused person led to the recovery of two short guns loaded with ammunitions, axe and charms. His cohorts who accompanied him to the scene meanwhile escaped after firing gunshots into the air.
Investigation conducted by the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Nigerian Police revealed that the culprit was once remanded into the prison for cult related activities.
Ojulari was also sighted at a political rally of the opposition party which included the Kwara Central senatorial candidate, Bolaji Abdullahi.
The Kwara State Police Command arraigned Ojulari before the Kwara State Magistrate Court, Ilorin presided over by Magistrate Adam Mohammed for the offences of criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms, being in possession of criminal charms and belonging to membership of secret society contrary to provisions of the Penal Code Law, Firearms Act and Prohibition of Secret Cult and Secret Societies Law 2006 respectively.
The order of remand on Ojulari rubbishes the lies spread around by PDP members that he had been released on the orders of the state government.
The presiding magistrate remanded the defendant to Oke Kura Correctional Centre while the Court awaits DPP advice as stated by the police prosecutor. The case has been adjourned to 21st February, 2023 for further mention.
