Support for one another has been described as a virtue that every Christian should embrace in their daily living. The Chairman of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) Kwara State chapter Evang. Stephen Awoyale (JP) made this admonition at the launch of the maiden YOWICAN Education Support (YES) Initiative which took place at the grand finale of the yearly CAN universal week of prayer held at St Barnabas Cathedral Church Ilorin.
Awoyale said, “Christians should imbibe the spirit of giving especially to the less privileged amongst us. Our faith admonished us to be our brother’s Keeper at all times and Jesus can only effectively be preached when we show His kind of love to the world. ”
He said the YOWICAN Education Support (YES) Initiative is the association’s way of lending an helping hand to the less privileged in the body of Christ and a way of encouraging education amongst Christian youths in the State.
The YOWICAN Chairman called on well-meaning Christians to support the initiative to allow more people benefit *from it* by partnering with YOWICAN, as the association can not do it alone.
The Kwara State Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Chairman Rt. Reverend S.T.G Adewole while presenting the scholarship award to the beneficiaries, who were the first beneficiaries of the YES initiative Commended YOWICAN for their insightfulness and admonished the beneficiaries to make good use of the scholarship given to them. 42 students from across the 16 Local Government Areas and across different denominations in the State benefitted from the YES initiative.
The YES initiative is an educational support scheme that seeks to give scholarship support to willing Christian youths who, for lack of funds, have dropped out of schooling in primary and secondary schools to enable them return back to school. It is planned to be an intervention by the body to reduce the number of out of school students in Kwara State.
