Five governors who ran on the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, platform gathered on Sunday in Enugu State in advance of the February 2023 presidential elections.
According to insider sources, the topic of conversation was how to elect Mr. Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, in 2023.
The governors are Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, and Okezie Ikeazu of Abia State.
The insider claims that the five governors were persuaded to support Peter Obi’s bid because they felt uncomfortable with Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s nominee.
According to reports, the crisis engulfing the main opposition may not be unrelated to the governors’ decision.
Despite attempts by party stakeholders to end the cold war, the crisis—which was sparked by the confrontation between Wike and the former vice president—had grown out of control.
