Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, the Oluwo of Iwo, has vowed to join Yoruba nation agitators and other monarchs if the country’s presidency is not given to the south in 2023.

Oluwo said in a statement issued by his media aide, Alli Ibrahim, that if power is retained in the north in 2023, the yoruba separatist agenda will be justified, urging politicians not to tear Nigeira apart.

He also stated that his traditional voice calmed the nation’s agitators by appealing to northern traditional rulers, notable politicians, and stakeholders to intervene in the transfer of power to Southern Nigeria.

The monarch believes that southern candidates are credible and capable of leading Nigeria. There is no justification for denying them power for the unity of the country

“The conventional power rotation has contributed immensely to cement the unity of Nigeria. Retaining the power in the North will spur further agitations likely to question the oneness of Nigeriaā€¯

“I’m a leading Natural Paramount Ruler from Southern Nigeria who is calming Yoruba Nation Agitations. My intervention was to ensure that Nigeria remained united.

The Agitators then raised a number of issues for discussion. One of them was the traditional presidential power rotation. We hoped their voice was noted for consideration. We don’t want to see another protest like this. It is manageable with political fairness ahead of the 2023 general elections. Politics must not tear the country apart.

“In the interest of fairness, equity, and unity, I’m appealing to Northern traditional rulers and stakeholders to consider Southern presidency.” President Muhammed Buhari of Northern origin has nearly completed two eight-year terms. To be fair, power should revert to the South.

“Keeping power in the north will fuel agitation.” We hope that some of those who joined the previous protest will not join again if power remains in the North.

“Once again, I implore stakeholders, Nigerian owners, and opinion leaders to prioritize Nigeria over personal gain.” We should yearn for unity, togetherness, oneness, and justice. “I support one Nigeria.”
