David Bamgbose, the Peoples Redemption Party’s (PRP) candidate for governor in Ogun State in the upcoming general election, passed away seven days after the party named him its flagbearer.
Oduntan Olayemi, the politician’s personal assistant, confirmed the abrupt death and said that Bamgbose had previously reported feeling weak and had been transported to a private hospital in the Olomore neighborhood of Abeokuta.

He claimed that the family diverted from their intended course to the FMC in order to visit Sacred Heart Hospital, Lantoro in the town, due to the severity of his illness.
Mr. Bamgbose was subsequently admitted, according to the personal assistant, who also noted that his health quickly worsened and that he needed to be revived. Following it, he died.
“I found him breathing excessively quickly and heavily when I returned to the hospital this morning (Friday). I was at the location where I had gone to obtain him some last-minute prescription medication. Mr Olayemi said
At a press conference conducted at the Iwe-Iroyin Press Centre in Abeokuta last Saturday, Mr. Bamgbose was officially introduced by his party. At the press conference, he positioned himself as the best candidate to lead the state in 2023.
The deceased claimed that his party came into being at a time when people could control their own destinies and advised them to be vigilant in evaluating the caliber, skills, backgrounds, and ideologies of candidates.
“I Prof David Olufemi Bamgbose stands and as a better choice for the people of Ogun State in the forthcoming 2023 general election in all ramifications coupled with the fact that PRP is a party that identifies with the masses and less privileged in the society.
We won’t be a godfather-run administration. The late democratic martyr Kola Abiola’s scion, who is running for president on behalf of our great party, PRP, is a reflection of the battle and symbol of Nigeria’s attempt to achieve democracy.
Our society is not yet free and democratic due to undemocratic procedure and the effects of the monetization of our body polity, so we will also enlist the spirit of the late Chief MKO Abiola, a symbol of the democratic struggle, to aid us in our efforts to do so.
