Erling Haaland, a sensation for Manchester City, scored three goals in the first half against Nottingham Forest to set a Premier League record for most goals in a month.
The former Borussia Dortmund forward marked his debut with two goals against West Ham on the first day after City won the battle to buy him for £51 million. By the end of tonight’s first half, Haaland had added a second consecutive treble, bringing his total for the year to nine from five games.
Pep Guardiola decided to rest Riyad Mahrez and Kevin de Bruyne for this game, therefore City made two substitutions: Ilkay Gundogan and Julian Alvarez. It was also a fantastic chance for him to observe Alvarez, who was making his Premier League debut, along with Haaland.
Alvarez had two early half-chances from corner routines that were near, but it was Haaland who took center stage to set the record for most Premier League strikes in August, and he achieved so on Wednesday night at an enthusiastic Etihad Stadium with a signature opening against Forest.
