Iyorchia Ayu, the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has dared Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, to state he is unconcerned about calls for his resignation, claiming those behind them are young people who lack understanding of the party’s founding principles.

According to Ayu, the PDP’s stakeholders and members chose him based on the party’s established guidelines.

The national chairman noted in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service that even if there were another election, those demanding for his resignation would not succeed him.

Part of the reconciliation process, Atiku met with the governor in the United Kingdom last week but in response, the national chairman said in an interview with BBC Hausa, “I was voted as PDP Chairman for a four-year tenure and I’m yet to complete a year. The Chairman’s role is unaffected by Atiku’s victory. Based on the rules of our party, I was elected.

“I didn’t offend anyone; all I’m doing is restructuring the party so I won’t have to listen to the noises. I know I’m working hard and I didn’t steal any money, so I don’t understand why there are so many discussions. These kids weren’t there when we started PDP. They are little children who have no idea why our party was founded. We shall not permit anyone to undermine our party, he said.

Back in recent weeks, a news outlet said that the PDP national chairman had signed a letter of resignation that was in the possession of David Mark, a party chieftain and former president of the Senate, but Ayu refuted the claim.
