Actress Charlbi Dean from South Africa, who starred in the Palme d’Or-winning movie “Triangle of Sadness,” passed away on Tuesday at the age of 32, according to a spokesperson.
The publicist told AFP via email that Dean’s death on Monday due to an unforeseen illness was “devastating” and confirmed a report on TMZ.
Dean, who was also a model, passed away in New York City, according to the celebrity website and Hollywood tabloid Deadline.
No information about the ailment that led to her death was given by the representation or the reports.
In the Swedish director Ruben Ostlund’s “Triangle of Sadness,” Dean appeared opposite Woody Harrelson and Harris Dickinson.
At the Cannes Film Festival in May of this year, the incisive satire about class struggle took home the top honor.
Dean plays Yaya, a model who is invited on a vacation for the super-wealthy, only to have her standing subtly eroded by unforeseen circumstances, in the movie.
On February 5, 1990, Dean was born in Cape Town, South Africa.
She was most recognized for her role as Syonide in The CW’s DC Comics-based series “Black Lightning” before appearing in “Triangle of Sadness.”
She also featured in “Spud” (2010), “Don’t Sleep” (2017) and “Blood in the Water” (2016).
In October 2008, she was hospitalised after surviving a car crash with fellow model Ashton Schnehage, according to the movie database site IMDb.
