Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing: Kwara Govt lists construction, remodeling of schools, training of more teachers as Q4 achievements

The Kwara State Government has pledged continuous development in the education sector, with emphasis on access, system strengthening and delivering quality and inclusive education for all.

The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, made this assertion today during the 4th quarter Inter-Ministerial Press Briefing organized by the Ministry of Communications at the conference room of Ministry of Finance.

The Commissioner noted that the State government had embarked on the demolition and reconstruction of a block of 3 classrooms, demolition and reconstruction of 2 blocks of classrooms with offices and construction of a block of 4 unit toilet compartments in Adeta LGEA Primary School “B”, Ilorin.

She added that 500 teachers were trained on basic digital skills and content creation as part of the teachers’ introduction to the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP), an online and offline solution designed to close learning gap and increase access to quality education either in the schools or from the comfort of their homes.

Hajia Modibbo Kawu mentioned that the Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has consistently approved the prompt release of transportation fares and feeding allowances for the exchange students in Government Secondary School, Ilorin, Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, Ilorin and Kwara State School for Special Needs as well as timely release of the 2024/2025 Academic Calendar to pave way for a seamless academic year in public and private schools.

The Commissioner disclosed that the Kwara Learn Steering Committee meeting was held and Stakeholders visited selected primary schools to access and evaluate the progress and challenges of Kwara Learn Program in the state.

Hajia Modibbo Kawu further stated that the State government had fully launched the Education for Peace and Security Strategy, in partnership with the Office of the First Lady, while the Ministry also organized U17 Secondary Schools Football Championship, which involved public and private secondary schools across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state.

In addition, the Commissioner mentioned that the Ministry organized a crucial advocacy and sensitization meeting with Stakeholders in Kwara State, on the establishment of effective implementation of School-Based Management Committee ( SBMC) and Safe School Initiative, in conjunction with the National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC).

On Agency for Mass Education in the state, Hajia Modibbo Kawu explained that the Agency got approval for the purchase of electricity powered industrial machine and 19 white boards for the literacy centres.

The Commissioner said the Agency is partnering to promote adult and youth literacy, hence, the Agency provided three Facilitators and writing materials to the newly launched University of Ilorin Literacy Centre and a Facilitator, writing materials and a white board to Madala Correctional Centre to teach the inmates, adding that the Agency successfully conducted the annual post literacy examination.
