Nigerian Celebrities Running For Elective Positions In 2023. Some Nigerian celebrities have chosen to play the political game and run for various political posts as the 2023 General Elections get closer.

They intend to leverage their influence as well-known entertainers and influencers to win the crucial votes in the upcoming elections.

 

Here are five well-known Nigerians who plan to run for a variety of political positions in the forthcoming 2023 General Elections.

1. Nollywood actress Carolyna Hutchings, formerly known as Caroline Danjuma and Caroline Ekanem, made her screen debut in 2004 and appeared in several of Chico Ejiro’s well-known films.

 

Hutchings entered the reality television world in 2022 when she starred in “The Real Housewives of Lagos,” which debuted on April 8 in the same year. Hutchings had already made a significant impact on the Nigerian film industry.

As its deputy governorship candidate, Carolyna Hutchings is a member of the African Action Congress (AAC).

 

2. Desmond Elliot

The longest-serving Nigerian celebrity in politics is Desmond Elliot, a Nigerian actor, director, and politician. He has acted in more than 200 films, as well as a few TV shows and soap operas.

 

In the general elections held on April 11, 2015, he was chosen to represent the Surulere constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly. He ran again for the seat in 2019 and won it, and he will be standing for it a third time in the upcoming general elections.

 

3. Banky W.

Olubankole Wellington is a Nigerian singer, rapper, actor, and politician who is better known by his stage name Banky W and is credited in movies as Banky Wellington.

 

On February 23, 2019, Wellington ran on the Modern Democratic Party platform for the Nigerian House of Representatives seat for the Lagos Eti-Osa Federal Constituency (MDP). He lost the election to Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

 

In June 2022, Wellington switched from the MDP to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in preparation for the general elections of 2023. He then ran again for the House of Representatives seat representing the Lagos Eti-Osa Federal Constituency.

 

4. Tonto Dikeh

A highly contentious Nollywood actress, singer, songwriter, and humanitarian, Tonto Charity Dikeh.

 

She was declared in June 2022 as the Deputy Governorship Candidate for the upcoming Rivers State governor elections on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

 

5. Funke Akindele

Funke Akindele is a well-known Nollywood actress and producer who sprang to fame after appearing in the UNFPA-sponsored TV series “I Need to Know,” which aired from 1998 to 2002.

 

After achieving astounding success in her acting profession but less success in her marriage, Funke Akindele was nominated as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Deputy Governorship Candidate for the upcoming 2023 elections for governor of Lagos State.
